HC Alkaloid came away without any points from their Round 6 derby against CHC Ohrid at the Biljanini Izvori arena in Ohrid.

CHC Ohrid opened 2-0 and later made it 3-1, but HC Alkaloid quickly hit back with a 4-0 run to take the lead. By the 12th minute, Kiril Lazarov’s men were two goals up (5-3), before extending their advantage to three (7-4) three minutes later. The hosts responded with two goals in a row to pull within one (6-7).

CHC Ohrid drew level at 7-7 and regained the lead a few minutes later at 9-8, prompting HC Alkaloid head coach Kiril Lazarov to call a timeout. The hosts, however, continued to dictate the pace, scoring twice more to open up a three-goal lead for the first time (11-8). Nikola Kosteski converted a 7-meter throw to halt their run, but CHC Ohrid struck twice again to stretch the gap to 13-9.

In the closing seconds of the first half, with the score at 14-11, HC Alkaloid opted to attack with an empty goal in a bid to cut the deficit. Both teams were down to six outfield players at the time, but the visitors lost possession, allowing CHC Ohrid to score into the unguarded net and take a 15-11 lead into the break.

CHC Ohrid controlled the opening ten minutes of the second half, building their biggest lead of the match at six goals (19-13) in the 41st minute. HC Alkaloid refused to back down, though, and mounted a strong comeback over the next seven minutes. The visitors cut the deficit to three (21-18) and had a chance to close the gap to two, setting up a tense finish.

CHC Ohrid weathered the visitors’ comeback push, rebuilt a five-goal lead, and held on to their advantage until the final whistle, sealing a 26-24 victory.
